HOW WE HELP
There are many ways the Good Doctors Foundation helps patients in need.
Did you know that individuals who receive a life-saving organ must take medication to prevent rejection of the organ?
This medication MUST be taken for a lifetime or the body will reject this organ. The cost of the medication can be as high as $2,200 each month. The individual’s insurance will cover the medication cost based on the policy terms. This can leave the individual with a co-pay of up to $500 per month.
Housing is always an issue for patients who do not live near the medical center and the cost of travel can be enough to prohibit medical services at all. Here is an excerpt from a mother whose son received a kidney transplant: “I hope this letter will adequately express our gratitude and the blessing the apartment meant to my family and me during a very trying time in our lives. Having a safe, clean place within moments of the hospital and a place to rest our body and mind at night was a gift beyond comparison.”
EDUCATION & OTHER RESOURCES
Managing chronic illnesses can be challenging for patients and families alike. We not only try to provide those in need with education about their illness, but also connect them and their families with other resources and charities that may be able to offer some assistance.
